The Chance Vought F4U-5 Corsair was a post-war development of the highly successful WWII fighter. It was fitted with a more powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800-32(E) engine with a supercharger, leading to changes to the cowl profile. A number of smaller changes were made incorporating the lessons learned in wartime. The -5N variant was fitted with a radar pod and was operated by the USN, USMC, RAN, French Aeronavale, RNZAF, Armada Argentina, FAH (Honduras) and FAS (El Salvador) It is a big brutish beast of an aeroplane, much different in detail to the WW2 variants. The High Planes Models kit captures the shape of this aircraft very well indeed, partly as a result of measurements made of a surviving F4U-5 when it was still in New Zealand. Decals are included for two of the overall flat black aircraft with red codes as used in Korea, an Argentinian Navy aircraft, and one from the Honduran Air Force during the Honduran/Salvador soccer war which actually shot down a Mustang or two. The High Planes Models kit includes limited run injection moulded plastic and white metal parts, vacuum formed canopies by Falcon and three decal options.
