High Planes North American Griffon Mustang Racer "Precious Metal" Lake Air 1992 Kit 1:72
PRECIOUS METAL', certainly a fitting name for this aircraft. The original 'Precious Metal' was a standard Merlin powered Mustang, owned by the Whittington Brothers, who rebuilt her with a Griffon engine and various other mods.In 1988 it appeared at Reno and showed great potential. However the prop failed during the race, and went into flat pitch, which resulted in a belly landing, and much damage. After major repairs, and addition of Neon Green wings, it emerged as 'World Jet', however it was not succesful and languished in a hanger. It was eventually bought by Ron Buccarelli, and finally made it back to Reno in 2002, where Ron took it to fourth in the Silver race.
